Independent snow and weather reporting from the Zao region of Yamagata

New snowfall at base 19cm
Snowfall at base this season 243cm

Posted on Sunday 15th January 2017 This is an archived report. The latest Zao Now report can be found here.

Good morning from Zao on what must surely be the coldest of the season so far.

The resort is reporting a temperature of -16C up on the top area and it's not that much warmer down here either... -10C. Brrrrrrrr.

Even better is that we have a very nice fresh layer of snowfall on the ground, 19cm of it on my car outside and so I would imagine a good 30+cm up on the slopes.

Snow likely today, tonight and into tomorrow though clearer skies are currently forecast for Tuesday and Wednesday.
