Independent snow and weather reporting from the Yuzawa & Minamiuonuma region of Niigata

New snowfall at base 10cm
Snowfall at base this seas 913cm

Posted on Monday 9th March 2026 This is an archived report. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here.

It has been a good 24 hours. Perhaps unexpectedly, the snow continued yesterday and it's actually snowing early this morning too.

We've seen an additional 10cm since the report yesterday (with just a small dusting of that from overnight). Kagura is reporting 3cm 'since yesterday'.

It's so good to see everywhere good and white once again, and from what I gathered from a few people yesterday there was 20-30cm of fresh snow at higher elevations yesterday.

The forecasts for today generally say cloud in the morning and some sun later on. Some say the sun might make an earlier appearance and there are actually a few signs of breaks in the cloud in some directions. As of 7:20am though, some light snow still lingering.

We might get some more snow tomorrow, too.
