Independent snow and weather reporting from the Yuzawa & Minamiuonuma region of Niigata

New snowfall at base 0cm
Snowfall at base this seas 1243cm

Posted on Saturday 3rd May 2025 This is an archived report. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here.

Good morning from Yuzawa.

Yesterday the wind seemed to be around until around the middle of the day and then we got rain. Not nice, and not great for the snow.

This morning the runs at GALA Yuzawa are looking in much better shape than they were yesterday morning. They have clearly been busy moving some snow around and trying to patch things up. From the webcam images, it looks like they have done a pretty good! The ski area has stated the intention to remain open through Tuesday as originally planned. Gambatte!

Not good news from Kagura, though. Mitsumata Ropeway is going to be out of action for the whole day today, due to some kind of mechanical trouble. Oh dear. That means Kagura will only be open via Tashiro Ropeway - and only 4 Tashiro ski lifts will be open. The Tashiro car park is going to fill up very quickly. (I wonder if the ski area will provide a shuttle bus or something from Mitsumata car park? No such news is available at time of this report). That situation is very unfortunate timing with today being the first of four holidays and lots of people expected to be around.

8:00am update: The ski area has said that the Tashiro car park is already full. (But no official word on any kind of special shuttle bus service).

It is a cloudy start to the day but we might get some sun. Currently there is a chance of some light rain at times tomorrow, but back to sun on Monday.
