Independent snow and weather reporting from the Yuzawa & Minamiuonuma region of Niigata

New snowfall at base 1cm
Snowfall at base this season 147cm

Posted on Tuesday 3rd January 2017 This is an archived report. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here.

Yesterday was one of those way-too-nice days again, with an almost spring like feel to it. Can we have no more of them until April please?!

Overnight we were hoping for some snow - and it is snowing lightly right now this morning but just a dusting or a bit more accumulation at town level until now. It's not particularly cold and temperature is forecast to remain between 1C and 3C during the day today; definitely an improvement on yesterday.

Here is the fresh snowfall that is being reported from resorts this morning...

Naeba: 5-10cm

Kagura: 10cm at Kagura and 5cm at the Mitsumata and Tashiro areas

Maiko Snow Resort: 0cm at base; up to 15cm at thee top Okusoeji area

...so there is fresh snow up on higher elevations. Head high!

Snow is forecast tomorrow and Thursday as well so let's see how it all shapes up. Fingers crossed everyone.
