Independent snow and weather reporting from the Yuzawa & Minamiuonuma region of Niigata

New snowfall at base 7cm
Snowfall at base this seas 589cm

Posted on Friday 3rd February 2023 This is an archived report. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here.

Yesterday we had some changeable weather conditions. At times there was some blue sky and sunshine, but it often quickly started to snow again. In the end it felt like it was snowing more than it was clearer, though it wasn't the kind of snowfall where the cm quickly piled up. Our measurement since yesterday morning is 7cm.

We can probably expect 5-10cm of snow on the slopes.

It is snowing lightly at the moment though mostly a day of cloud is forecast. It actually feels like we might get to see the sun again as it is currently trying to break through the clouds to the north.

The forecasts for tomorrow are varied: some predict a cloudy day, some say it will be sunny in the morning. We might get some more snow again tomorrow night too, which would be great for weekend visitors.

There's some news on the Yuzawa Snow Link connections between Yuzawa Kogen, GALA Yuzawa and Ishiuchi Maruyama.

The Buggy lift that connects GALA Yuzawa with Ishiuchi Maruyama will be open from... today!

The Landau Ropeway that connects GALA Yuzawa with Yuzawa Kogen will be open from next Saturday (11th February).

A new simple rope tow lift has also been spotted at the top of Ishiuchi Maruyama. They are calling it Superstar Lift. Basically, this lift connects the top of the Buggy lift with the summit of Ishiuchi Maruyama, allowing people from GALA to get up to the top of Ishiuchi Maruyama easily. (Without that lift, you need to use the winding course to properly connect with Ishiuchi and miss the views from the summit). We will find out more about that lift and update our information both in this report and on the Ishiuchi Maruyama page on SnowJapan soon.
