Independent snow and weather reporting from the Yuzawa & Minamiuonuma region of Niigata

New snowfall at base 18cm
Snowfall at base this seas 582cm

Posted on Thursday 2nd February 2023 This is an archived report. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here.

Yesterday we enjoyed some fine blue skies in the morning. It was quite windy at times and clouds started gathering around mid-morning. They never really took over though until later in the day.

Unfortunately, as it was on the milder side we did get some rain in the evening, but overnight it turned into snow. Happily, we do have a layer of snow this morning.

Kagura and Maiko Snow Resort are reporting 30cm of fresh. (Unfortunately, only the Mitsumata Area is opening at the start of the day due to strong wind conditions forecast).

In town we measured 18cm of snow overnight (and 14cm was measured to the north, close to Ishiuchi Maruyama).

Changeable weather conditions early this morning. Just a short while ago there was some blue sky and sun, but it has since started snowing again just north of Yuzawa. We are not expecting much during the day though, and it may well get clearer again.

Currently it is around -1C and it shouldn't warm up much from that during the day.
