It was snowing for most of the day yesterday - and actually coming down pretty good during the day on the mountain.
Your reporter was up at Maiko yesterday where there was at times limited visibility and most of the time moderate to heavy snow coming down, which was great to see. It was fairly busy as well for a weekday. Not so much snow had fallen back down at base though, with only 1cm of fairly heavy wet snow on the top of the car by mid afternoon.
The snowfall got heavier - and drier - down to town level in the evening and overnight. This morning there's 9cm of fresh to report here at outside my place. Given what I experienced yesterday I imagine a decent bit more than that up in some higher areas.
Maiko resort themselves are this morning reporting 15-20cm of fresh snowfall, while Kagura are reporting perhaps a surprisingly low 10-15cm and Naeba 5cm.
Looking at the forecast the decent snowfall we were told to expect at the end of the week now seems scheduled to be here around Saturday.
Before then, expect sunshine tomorrow and perhaps Friday as well along with milder daytime temperatures (perhaps rising to around 4C).
