Independent snow and weather reporting from the Yuzawa & Minamiuonuma region of Niigata

New snowfall at base 48cm
Snowfall at base this seas 638cm

Posted on Friday 31st January 2025 This is an archived report. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here.

An excellent end to the month!

Yesterday there might not have been as much snow as we expected, even some sun at times, but Nature has delivered overnight.

First of all, this is how much fresh snow ski areas are reporting:

Kagura (Mitsumata): 50cm

Yuzawa Kogen: 50cm

Maiko Snow Resort: 40-50cm

48cm has just been cleared from our measuring point (since the report yesterday).

This is the full reset we were hoping for.

Ski areas are coping with all the snow early on and so some lifts might be delayed. The main and Tashiro Areas of Kagura are not going to be open today due to wind/weather, so only the Mitsumata Area will be open. Otherwise, all ski areas appear to be opening.

Update: The Southern Area of GALA Yuzawa (and Landau Ropeway) is also closed today.

Limited visibility and some deep snow out there, so special care should be taken in these conditions.

The snow should ease off by tomorrow, leaving us with what is forecast to be a generally calmer weekend. (Mainly just cloudy or maybe a bit of sun at times).
