Good morning from Yuzawa.

Yesterday was very windy. It was really blowing about, and it's now easy to see why Kagura didn't open yesterday!

The strong southerly wind and mild conditions won't have been kind to the snow that is up there.

It's a murky and damp kind of start to the day, and a very mild 9-10C in town. At least the wind has calmed down.

The weather might not be perfect, but Kagura ski area is scheduled to be open today.

It is the first ski area in Niigata Prefecture to open for the season.

Over the coming days, hopefully it will get colder and we will get some snow on the mountains, though it seems unlikely that we'll get any snow down to town (where it will be more like rain).

Anyway, it is officially the first day of the ski season. That is definitely something to celebrate with a lot to look forward to. :)

May it be a good one!
