Independent snow and weather reporting from the Yuzawa & Minamiuonuma region of Niigata
New snowfall at base 25cm
Snowfall at base this season 428cm
Posted on Monday 27th January 2014 This is an archived report. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here.
The rain continued during the morning yesterday at town level, though it was snowing on the mountain depending on where you were of course. In the afternoon though it was snowing in town as well which was good to see. By night time it was actually snowing quite heavily at times and a strong wind blowing it about as well. I moved 10cm of snow off my car at 9pm last night and this morning there's another 15cm. So that's 25cm since yesterday afternoon.
Resorts around the valley are reporting similar numbers, 20-30cm, and with the high up Kagura reporting 30cm of new snowfall.
It is still snowing here this morning though the forecast has the snow clouds clearing up. Leaving us with either just cloud or perhaps even some sun later on in the day. Certainly looks like a clearing up might happen. Happily, after that mild start, temperatures dropped yesterday afternoon and remain below zero this morning. It was -5C at 9am.
So should be a good day out on the slopes today.
