Independent snow and weather reporting from the Yuzawa & Minamiuonuma region of Niigata

New snowfall at base 4cm
Snowfall at base this season 14cm

Posted on Tuesday 21st November 2017 This is an archived report. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here.

Just a bit of snow down in Yuzawa town since yesterday, though much more falling at higher elevations and up at Naeba too.

Kagura news, and it's very good news too... they are saying that almost all of the main Kagura area and the Mitsumata area will be open on Thursday.

That's an impressive start to the season and we're really excited about it. None of that faffing about with shuttle buses and short narrow courses open, oh no, not this year. The Mitsumata Ropeway will be taking folks up and there'll be skiing and boarding on offer right there in Mitsumata.

Taking a look at the forecasts, tomorrow is expected to be a little warmer after this blast of winter we have had over the last few days (with temperatures perhaps even closing in on double digits in town) and so we can expect at least some of the snow around town to melt away. But it looks like there's going to be a return to colder conditions and more snow by the weekend (particularly up at higher levels), though don't be surprised at rain in town.

Still, great stuff with that Kagura news.
