We probably got around 15cm of new snowfall since yesterday, and while it was still snowing on and off in the region - especially to the north in Minamiuonuma - earlier on, right now the clouds have been clearing up and the sun is out. The local forecast still has snow for today, so the clouds could well come back.

According the the lastest forecast, a brief spell of minder conditions is due on Saturday and town and lower slope areas may well see rain but from Sunday a cold front that brings with it some potentially heavy snowfall is due to be with us.

Resorts around town that are open remain only partly open as we wait for that heavy snowfall to really get things going. The snow of the last few days has definitely made conditions better though. A few more resorts plan to open tomorrow - Ishiuchi Maruyama, Yuzawa Park and Muikamachi Ski Resort - followed by some more in the region opening on Saturday. Details below.
