Independent snow and weather reporting from the Yuzawa & Minamiuonuma region of Niigata

New snowfall at base 2cm
Snowfall at base this seas 373cm

Posted on Thursday 19th January 2023 This is an archived report. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here.

Beautiful clear blue skies over the region this morning. There is some low-lying cloud in the Minamiuonuma valley just the north of Yuzawa, but apart from that it's clear blue and white.

After some rain again we did get some snow last night. It has gone from the roads around town now, but that is what is added to this report. Currently -2C and forecast to get to around +4C during the day in town.

Kagura is reporting 10cm of fresh snow since yesterday.

The top lift at Muikamachi Hakkaisan has apparently run into some trouble (something to do with one of the lift pillars). This season that lift has been scheduled to be open on weekends and holidays, but it looks like it is going to be closed for an undetermined period. With that lift closed, you need to get the Ropeway each time you want to access the top area.

Looking ahead, when can we expect more snow? Well, tomorrow night into Saturday is still looking promising and then early in the week looks like it might be good.

In the meantime, we can get out and enjoy this clear weather.
