Independent snow and weather reporting from the Yuzawa & Minamiuonuma region of Niigata
New snowfall at base 0cm
Snowfall at base this seas 97cm
Posted on Wednesday 17th December 2025 This is an archived report. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here.
It looks like higher areas might have got at least another light dusting of snow overnight, but nothing down to town level.
There is a lot of cloud around early on this morning but some blue sky too and we might get some clearer skies this morning again.
Rain and possibly snow is forecast later on and overnight into tomorrow morning.
Kandatsu Snow Resort has cancelled its planned night skiing over the coming weekend and fireworks on Saturday (reason: snow conditions); though the ski area itself still plans to be open.
There's not much else to report really at the moment. Forecasts are still telling us all to expect a warm weekend - up into (low) double digits.
Like I said yesterday, we can probably expect some of the ski areas that plan to be open from this weekend to announce delays; some higher areas might be ok. As of this moment, that is still just speculation based on what can be seen and a few conversations. I will bring you any actual confirmed news in this report each morning.
It is a disappointing situation, for sure, but we have been here before; it's not particularly unusual at this point.
Hopefully we might get some more winter coming in next week.
