Independent snow and weather reporting from the Yuzawa & Minamiuonuma region of Niigata

New snowfall at base 19cm
Snowfall at base this season 109cm

Posted on Sunday 17th December 2017 This is an archived report. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here.

Morning from Yuzawa.

It was a lovely morning yesterday... and then later on... it rained! Grrrr.

But, happily we can quickly erase that from our minds because this morning there is a nice new layer of fresh snow on the ground around town.

Kagura is reporting 20cm of fresh snow this morning. And so are Maiko. Personally, I am measuring 19cm of snow to add to the report. And it is snowing very nicely at the moment so it should be building up.

Interesting that Iwappara are still holding off on opening for the season. I would imagine that with this snowfall, their opening is imminent.

After today not a whole lot of major snowfall on the weekly forecast - next up Tuesday? - so it would be good if we could get a decent amount from today. Tomorrow morning we might get some sunshine so it should be a great day to be out on the mountain.
