Independent snow and weather reporting from the Yuzawa & Minamiuonuma region of Niigata
New snowfall at base 0cm
Snowfall at base this seas 392cm
Posted on Tuesday 13th January 2026 This is an archived report. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here.
Yesterday was another kind of curious day of changeable weather with spells of clearer skies and sun and then light snow in higher places.
We have enjoyed some fine weather this morning so far. A lot of blue sky and sunshine with some white cloud.
Very pleasant.
But there is a bit of a (southerly) wind.
I'm seeing conflicting information - on official sites - regarding the status of Kagura ski area. It's either only the Tashiro Area that is closed or the whole lot closed. Looks like it might be the former.
There's also some grey cloud to the north and forecasts warn of the chance of rain during today sometime which will hopefully turn to snow sometime tonight or early tomorrow. And tomorrow it should be snowing.
I agree with what my Myoko Now report posting friend said the other day: we have similarly enjoyed some days of good snow, but so far this season that heavy snowfall hasn't continued for long... we haven't had any of those classic 3-4 days of relentless heavy snow. Yet. (Hopefully we'll get some of that. It is important for a long season).
Ski areas have snow now, so we're doing ok but, big picture, snow levels are still below average.
