Independent snow and weather reporting from the Yuzawa & Minamiuonuma region of Niigata

New snowfall at base 3cm
Snowfall at base this season 23cm

Posted on Friday 13th December 2019 This is an archived report. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here.

After some rain yesterday (really heavy at times) we have had a bit of snowfall down to town overnight. Not as much as we'd like, just a few cm but more as you get higher up.

Kagura are reporting 15cm of fresh snowfall and as you drive up to the Mitsumata Ropeway the amount on the ground gradually increases, getting less again as you continue on over to Naeba.

OK, so here is the ski resort news as we have it:

Kagura - Tashiro

The Tashiro area of Kagura will open as planned from tomorrow. They plan to have the Tashiro Ropeway, Tashiro Number 1 romance pair, Tashiro Number 2 romance pair and Tashiro Number 1 quad lift operating.

Maiko Snow Resort

Maiko Snow Resort was hoping to open from today but have announced a delay and will open as soon as they can.

GALA Yuzawa & Ishiuchi Maruyama

GALA Yuzawa and Ishiuchi Maruyama were planning on an opening tomorrow (Saturday) but have announced a delay.

Other resorts

The other ski resorts in the area that were planning on opening tomorrow will all be delaying opening.

So, the choice remains Kagura (via both Mitsumata Ropeway or Tashiro Ropeway from tomorrow) and the lower part of Naeba.

Kagura is currently part open:
