Independent snow and weather reporting from the Yuzawa & Minamiuonuma region of Niigata

New snowfall at base 21cm
Snowfall at base this seas 967cm

Posted on Wednesday 10th February 2021 This is an archived report. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here.

By night time yesterday there was 7cm of snowfall (since the morning report) and there is an additional 14cm to add to that this morning. So, 21cm since yesterdays report.

Here's how much fresh snowfall ski areas are reporting this morning:

Ishiuchi Maruyama: 20cm

Iwappara: 5cm (from last night)

Kagura: 5cm (from last night)

Maiko Snow Resort: 10cm (from last night)

Interesting bunch of numbers. The 'from last night' kind of wording that some ski areas use is always...curious. Is that actually meant to include snow during the day yesterday? The wording suggests not. But it would be great to include that too so we can keep a track of it. Just to be clear, the concept behind the numbers on our reports is 'since the last report' - a full days worth.

Anyway, back to the weather. There is a lot of cloud still around and but some surrounding areas are seeing a bit of sunshine already, and there are some hints of it in places here too; so wouldn't be surprised if we also got clearer skies today.

[Update at 9:15am: The sun is out!]

There might be some more snowfall overnight tonight but tomorrow the forecast is for cloud once again.

Tomorrow is a national holiday, so it will be interesting to see how busy ski areas are.
