Independent snow and weather reporting from the Shiga Kogen region of Nagano

New snowfall at base 30cm
Snowfall at base this season 499cm

Posted on Wednesday 28th February 2024 This is an archived report. The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here.

Morning from Shiga Kogen.

Yesterday, the snow that fell all day with strong winds blowing it all around making measurements difficult.

Here's what the ski areas are saying this morning:

Kumanoyu: 50cm fresh snow

Yakebitaiyama: 30cm fresh since closing yesterday (and more during the day); up to 70cm in some wind-blown

Okushiga Kogen: 70cm of snow over the last few days

I'm going with 30cm from a few samples around my place, but again I must stress that there is going to be real variations today. But, zoom out, the great news is all this new snow.

More snow is due into the weekend. It has been a very good end to the month. Let's hope March can keep that up!

(Top tip: ignore most of the official snow depth numbers, they never seem that bothered to update them)

The information below is manually checked with official sources and updated for every report.
