Independent snow and weather reporting from the Shiga Kogen region of Nagano

New snowfall at base 2cm
Snowfall at base this season 999cm

Posted on Monday 27th February 2017 This is an archived report. The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here.

We did in the end get a bit of fresh snow yesterday but this morning we are back to blue skies and sunshine with a bit of cloud.

Not really much else to report... may be a snow shower here or there tonight and tomorrow but generally calm weather and a chance of sun over the next few days. Next snowfall due Thursday.

The weekend crowds are gone and things are quieter.

Oh yes, I heard that the weather folk have announced their 6 month forecast. What's most important to us of course is what happens in March and April and the forecast generally seems to be for temperatures to be a bit higher than average. That's all very vague of course, but thought I would just share it.

We'll take it day by day here right through until May!

Official snow depths numbers reported by different areas of Shiga Kogen:

Please note that these numbers are the official numbers that ski resorts publish.

Also that they often don't update daily and don't reflect the amount of fresh snow falling!

All snowfall data presented on this page is the snowfall measured and observed at base/town level by our reporter based in Shiga Kogen. The 'new snowfall' number represents the amount of snow measured since the previous report. All opinions are those of the individual reporters. Information regarding ski area operations is manually checked every morning and is believed to be correct at the time of the report.
