Independent snow and weather reporting from the Shiga Kogen region of Nagano

New snowfall at base 44cm
Snowfall at base this season 489cm

Posted on Monday 26th January 2026 This is an archived report. The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here.

Morning from Shiga Kogen.

A cold and snowy and windy day yesterday across the region with generally poor visibility. Not friendly conditions. But lots of incoming snow.

This morning Yakebitaiyama was talking about 40cm of fresh since late afternoon yesterday. Kumanoyu is also reporting 40-50cm.

There's some deep snow out there. Exciting for sure, but special care is required in these conditions.

I haven't studied big-picture numbers but it just feels like we are getting into 'normal' territory (re: snowfall) for the first time this season.

Let's hope it keeps cold and we get normal winter patterns from now.

We might get some sun tomorrow morning.
