Independent snow and weather reporting from the Shiga Kogen region of Nagano

New snowfall at base 0cm
Snowfall at base this season 655cm

Posted on Friday 25th April 2014 This is an archived report. The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here.

The rain earlier in the week soon cleared and we have enjoyed some fine and clear conditions the last few days. We should have similar over the weekend.

As I write this, the first cars should be driving through the Route 292 road connecting Shiga Kogen with Kusatsu in Gunma Prefecture. It opens at 10am this morning. This road is of course closed during the winter months. Apparently, in some places the snow walls on the side of the road are 8m high. A sight to see for sure. Of course this road now open means that you can now get to Shiga Kogen from the Gunma side.

More lifts opening up again tomorrow for the Golden Week holidays, details as they are posted below.

Have a good weekend.
