Independent snow and weather reporting from the Shiga Kogen region of Nagano

New snowfall at base 10cm
Snowfall at base this season 26cm

Posted on Friday 14th December 2018 This is an archived report. The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here.

Good morning from Shiga Kogen.

It's good old mid-winter like cold and blowy snowy morning here. The wind is blowing the snow around and so somewhat difficult to give a number but I think 10cm is fair (and what my mostly wind-protected measuring areas is showing).

For now the only change in terms of resort operations that I can confirm is that at Yakebitaiyama the Karamatsu course and Number 2 lift are now open.

With more snow due today and into tomorrow, I expect news of more lifts and courses opening from tomorrow - though just at the moment I don't have anything confirmed to report.

The below information is manually checked for each report.

Official snow depth numbers are as reported by the ski resorts themselves.

Ichinose Family

- Official snow depth: 30cm

- A 370m stretch of lower course is open

- The Ichinose Number 2 pair lift A is operating

Kumanoyu

- Official snow depth: 25cm

- A 600m course area is open

- The Number 2 pair lift is operating

Takamagahara Mammoth

- Official snow depth: 25cm

- The lower part of the main course is open, 300m in length

- The Takamagahara Number 2 triple lift is operating

Yakebitaiyama

- Official snow depth: 30cm

- The 960m long South Course and 850m long Karamatsu Course are open

- The Number 2 high speed lift and 4 romance lift are operating

Yokoteyama

- Official snow depth: 15cm

- Part of the Yokoteyama Number 1 and Yokoteyama Queen Number 5 course area is open

- The Yokoteyama Number 1 Sky B lift and Yokoteyama Number 5 lift are operating

Other areas of Shiga Kogen are closed at time of writing.
