Independent snow and weather reporting from the Nozawa Onsen region of Nagano
New snowfall at base 9cm
Snowfall at base this season 650cm
Posted on Saturday 2nd February 2019 This is an archived report. The latest Nozawa Now report can be found here.
It's weekend time again and Nozawa is already feeling up for a busy weekend.
Nasuki, our most favourite bright green skier vegetable mascot character, is looking happy and ready for a good weekend on the Hikage slopes.
Yesterday we had more snow - 5-20cm being reported by the resort up until 3pm, with another 2-5cm overnight. I am able to add a measured 9cm to my report.
Before we get any more fresh snow we are going to be feeling somewhat warmer. There's already lots of blue sky and sun with some clouds this morning and it is around -2 as of 9am, and a high of about +2C or slightly more forecast for later on.
Tomorrow is going to be warmer still, hopefully not alarmingly so. There's a chance of rain as well either later tomorrow or into Monday. Once we're past that hopefully short-lived warm up, we should be seeing a return to colder conditions and snow next week.
Fresh snowfall reported by the ski resort (since yesterday morning):
- Yamabiko (1407m): 25cm
- Uenotaira (1230m): 13cm
- Hikage (660m): 12cm
- Nagasaka (615m): 12cm
- Karasawa (563m): 7cm
