Independent snow and weather reporting from the Nozawa Onsen region of Nagano

New snowfall at base 2cm
Snowfall at base this season 323cm

Posted on Tuesday 21st January 2014 This is an archived report. The latest Nozawa Now report can be found here.

Yes, yesterday was a very fine day after that very decent amount of snowfall.

Snow clouds moved back in though and this morning there's some new cm to report from just a few at base to 10cm on the top Yamabiko runs. It wasn't as cold overnight and actually now the temperature is just under 0C though it should stay around there for the day and tomorrow should be cooler.

It's snowing very lightly here as I write this and a look at the cams shows very poor visibility up on the mountain - perhaps snowing more heavily up there. Unconfirmed! Thick fog seems to be covering the top half. It should be snowing on and off, hopefully more on than off, for the day and also tomorrow.

One thing that we have lacked this season is consistent full-on conditions... like what we had the other day, but regularly and continuing for days. We could do with some of that.

But anyway. Yes, later on in the week a warm spell is forecast. Sunny and warmer on Friday and there's even a chance of some rain in the village at the weekend but fingers crossed even if we get that it won't last long and turn into snow. Let's forget about that until later in the week!

For now, conditions should still be really good again today. Just know the layout and where you're going because visibility is very limited up there.
