Independent snow and weather reporting from the Nozawa Onsen region of Nagano

New snowfall at base 2cm
Snowfall at base this season 217cm

Posted on Sunday 12th January 2014 This is an archived report. The latest Nozawa Now report can be found here.

A good morning from Nozawa. It's Sunday and it's the second day of the three day weekend in Japan.... and Nozawa is bustling.

Just a thin new layer of snow since yesterday with the top Yamabiko runs reporting 5cm and 1cm on lower slopes.

It's a fine morning as well. Cold after a low of around -7 overnight and at 9am around -5C at base. Top runs at -8C as of 7:30am. It's bluebird today as there's quite a bit of cloud hanging on but lots of blue sky and the sun shining down on the slopes.

Snow clouds are due to move in later on today, perhaps tonight, and hopefully tomorrow morning I'll be bringing news of fresh snowfall.

Official snow depths:

Yamabiko - 230cm

Uenotaira - 205cm

Hikage - 130cm

Nagasaka - 120cm

Karasawa - 90cm
