Independent snow and weather reporting from the Niseko region of Hokkaido
New snowfall at base 13cm
Snowfall at base this season 483cm
Posted on Saturday 8th January 2022 This is an archived report. The latest Niseko Now report can be found here
I have another 13cm of overnight snowfall to report this morning from overnight.
It's a long weekend and I can see a fair few people lined up for their first Hirafu lift of the day. It should be a relatively busy one (though not 'before times' kind of busy!).
Snow is falling as I write this and we may have another modest amount to report tomorrow. Tomorrow and Monday might be drier, with a return to heavier snow due once again around Wednesday. Basically for the moment the snow is going to stick around and never be that far away. Just how we like it.
From today the Jumbo Number 4 at Annupuri will be open for an extra 15 minutes (8:45am-3:15pm).
Wind is not an issue and all lifts are to open as planned this morning.

Winds until midnight followed by 15-20cm of light crystal snow fall until dawn has reset the mountain, ready for easyrider. General avalanche risk is low. The Jan 2nd low pressure snow layer at up to 100cm depth on south facing slopes above 1100m will fracture with strong stimulation. Take care in areas like Kozan no Sawa sidewall. Do not ride in the valley bottoms, this is the avalanche route. All gates are expected to be open. Please follow the patrols instructions. Do not enter strictly off limits areas Yu no Sawa or Haru no Taki. You will be permanently banned from the ski areas. Please understand and follow Niseko Rules. Everything is fantastic today.
