Independent snow and weather reporting from the Niseko region of Hokkaido

New snowfall at base 5cm
Snowfall at base this season 116cm

Posted on Wednesday 7th December 2022 This is an archived report. The latest Niseko Now report can be found here

I measured another 5cm of fresh snowfall to report to you this morning. A modest amount, but it keeps the daily numbers going. And somewhat heavier snowfall is forecast for later on today through tomorrow.

It doesn't feel quite as cold this morning. There is some light snow falling in places, though not outside my place right now. It is quite bright at the moment and there are hints of sun and even some shades of light blue sky.

More runs at Niseko Grand Hirafu are available from this morning including Beginners access, Kokutai, Green, Alpen and Sennoki. It means that you can now ski or snowboard back down to base without taking the lift back down, though the ski area recommends that only for 'advanced' riders due to there not being particularly deep snow cover just yet.

I have also added the open courses that are open at Hanazono (see list below; it's checked and updated every report).

If we get some decent snowfall over the next few days, we can probably look forward to more area and lifts to open by the weekend.
