Independent snow and weather reporting from the Niseko region of Hokkaido

New snowfall at base 2cm
Snowfall at base this season 536cm

Posted on Wednesday 5th February 2020 This is an archived report. The latest Niseko Now report can be found here

Yesterday we enjoyed some very nice snow conditions (well, I certainly did!) though some upper lifts were affected by wind and put on hold.

I have measured just 2cm of fresh snowfall from yesterday to report to you this morning from here at base.

Blue skies with just a bit of cloud this morning and sunshine too. It is a very cold morning and wind should not be an issue today, which is of course good news. With those top lifts moving I have no doubt that there will likely be a rush to the top areas!

(Alas, I can only look on as people line up for the first lifts. Background music: violins).

I bet some people will be measuring up the choices: mountain or Sapporo Snow Festival...

I am not sure why just now, but it appears that the Morino Chair at Niseko Village is on hold - and that lazy Country Road Chair is moving!
