Independent snow and weather reporting from the Niseko region of Hokkaido

New snowfall at base 2cm
Snowfall at base this season 20cm

Posted on Sunday 24th November 2024 This is an archived report. The latest Niseko Now report can be found here

Good morning from Niseko.

We had some periods of sunshine yesterday, with periods of light snow and less clear at times too.

This morning there is a new thin covering of snow to report. Slightly under 2cm at my main measuring point near Hirafu base. Light snow is falling as of 8:30am. It's fairly bright and now hovering around 0C.

Forecasts seem to be agreeing that the coming week will be a little on the warmer side and feature some rain, particularly around Tuesday/Wednesday. We can perhaps hope for more snow later in the week.

The ski areas on our lovely mountain plan to open on Saturday, which is just six days from now. Without a decent snowfall before Friday, that is currently looking rather unlikely.

I will, of course, keep you updated.

---------------

Ski areas plan to open on Saturday.... but they will need lots more snow in order to be able to do that!

All snowfall data presented on this page is the snowfall measured and observed at base/town level by our reporter based in Kutchan/Niseko. The 'new snowfall' number represents the amount of snow measured since the previous report. All opinions are those of the individual reporters. Information regarding ski area operations is manually checked every morning and is believed to be correct at the time of the report.
