Good morning from Niseko.

We have had some changeable conditions already this morning. At the moment there is a lot of cloud around, some remaining for, and the sun breaking through in places too. A little colder this morning but still above zero across the mountain.

Also, it's windy, and at the start of the day all top lifts are on hold. The three lifts at Hanazono, Niseko Gondola (at Niseko Village) and Annupuri Gondola are on hold too. Hanazono are saying that their lifts are undergoing some kind of check, so might be up and running soon.

I'm going to have some toast.

Niseko Avalanche Report

Mountain base +4C, thick fog foggy turning to sunny. Moiwa 800m: +2.24C, NW2.6m/s, thick fog. Annupuri 1100m: +0.9C, NNW9.7m/s. Mizuno no Sawa: +0.5C, NNE6.3m/s. Hirafu Hanazono: -0.3C, NW12.1m/s. Hanazono#3: +1.4C, NNE5.4m/s. Coastal data: Benkei Cape NNE12m/s, Kamui Cape E3m/s, 1007hPa, 0.0m waves.

Cold air is flowing into the area, there was a thick fog up to 800m at dawn which burned off by 7am, however the peak is still shrouded in cloud. The wind is expected to drop after noon. Depending on lift operation gates are expected to open. Snow melt continues from yesterday's warm air, be careful of full depth avalanches. Avoid entering valley and gully bottoms. Colder air is expected to flow in at higher levels this afternoon, freezing and hardening the mountain. The surface avalanche risk will be high with a westerly storm even this late in the season. Above 1200m Mt Yotei (or similar) be careful. For safety stay out of creeks and gullies during and right after a storm. Most accidents can be avoided with care. Snow is disappearing fast on the groomers. Have a good day.
