Independent snow and weather reporting from the Myoko region of Niigata

New snowfall at base 66cm
Snowfall at base this season 1163cm

If I didn't have my ruler, a consistent place to do the check, and hadn't actually tried to wade out through today's snowfall, I probably wouldn't have thought we got as much snow as we did. Then again, it was blowing like crazy last night, with snow falling heavily all through the night. It was coming down hard early this morning (and yes, we were up early to clear that snow!), although it's really slowed down now as I file the report.

It's going to be super tough to climb today, and I would be really concerned about snow offpiste. Real chances for big sluffs that could carry you into bad places (that snow is really unsettled, heavy as it is).

Great snow, so enjoy powder on the uncrowded ski areas this morning!
