Independent snow and weather reporting from the Myoko region of Niigata

New snowfall at base 20cm
Snowfall at base this season 55cm

Posted on Thursday 4th December 2025 This is an archived report. The latest Myoko Now report can be found here.

The first real snow of the year; that November snow never really counts, because it comes down heavy and wet and pretty deep but it always melts away (we still add it to the annual total, of course). Today it's 20cm and counting, and it's supposed to stay colds and keep on falling. The first trucks of the season not able to get up the slope in front of our reporting center. That's a sure sign of real snow.

One of our dear readers wrote that, if I mention a young dog getting her first experience in snow, photos are required. I only have a video, and the second shot (joyful dog in air) is super blurry. But I think you get the message that snow joy is not just for humans. Good job Sunny....

Your opening schedule is below; we'll be running and jumping for joy in no time now.
