This is an end of the year for the record books! I know you’re not going to believe the snow total—I don’t believe the snow total. It took 20 tough minutes to get to the boards I use to measure snow depth, and that’s over a distance of maybe 50 meters! Amazing, amazing snow. Very light and fluffy, after yesterdays’ very wet. packable snow.
Which is why there is one caution for the day: the snow is totally unconsolidated, or unsettled. If you fall in the fresh, you have a meter-plus to try and stand back up in. For boarders, get upside-down and it can be really scary (well, really for skiers, too). I mean, there have been some bad accidents, so maybe enjoy on the piste for awhile, let this settle and then go slay the powder. It will continue to be good in the coming days, just not so intense.
