Independent snow and weather reporting from the Myoko region of Niigata
New snowfall at base 7cm
Snowfall at base this season 11cm
Posted on Saturday 30th November 2019 This is an archived report. The latest Myoko Now report can be found here.
A bit of snow overnight, just enough to almost defeat the 2WD mini van that tried to come up the slope leading up to Akakura Kanko early this morning. He almost went diagonal on a slight turn partway up; get your snow tires on, get 4WD and some chains! He's lucky he didn't block traffic....
It's going to go away, as the freezing line moves up over 2,000 meters and we get some heavy rain on Monday. Typical for the season, though.
It will be cold again a few days after that, so we'll start adding more to the total snowfall for the season, even if the base will probably reset to 0cm. The wonders of nature!
