Independent snow and weather reporting from the Myoko region of Niigata

New snowfall at base 0cm
Snowfall at base this season 1088cm

Posted on Sunday 29th March 2026 This is an archived report. The latest Myoko Now report can be found here.

Last day of the season, at least for most of the resorts on most slopes.

Another sunny, warm day—but the snow held up all the way to the base at Akakan, which doesn’t even happen on heavy snow years sometimes. Lots of kosa dust all over central Japan today, which will give us more whiteish skies (and a swear that I can taste some dry grittiness. Probably psychosomatic). I’m watching the instructors at one of the local ski schools packing up and getting ready to head to their respective homes. Not a lot of call for lessons at the end of the season, although there are a lot of first-timers out there, even this late in the season.

I did notice that, while Australian accents are way down, we did have a lot of Mandarin speakers out there on the slopes yesterday.
