Independent snow and weather reporting from the Myoko region of Niigata

New snowfall at base 42cm
Snowfall at base this season 42cm

Posted on Saturday 25th November 2023 This is an archived report. The latest Myoko Now report can be found here.

Just a quick update, as this is the first day with measurable snow here at the base of Akakan. And it's a pretty solid 40+ cm of heavy, wet, sticky snow. Every shovel load is a great pre-season workout when you lift it; all the phone and power lines are covered in snow; small trees are being right down to the ground. And it keeps on coming, so the snowthrower might also get a good early-season workout today.

As I mentioned in the previous pre-season posting, I'll have lots of official information after the opening meeting here on December 1 (a party follows, so I might not post immediately, just to ensure clarity. Building good human communications is such an important part of Japanese culture....)

See you again in a few more days; I will report in the meantime if a lot more snow falls, but it looks like some sunny and warmer weather just before we get into December.
