New snowfall at base 5cm
Snowfall at base this season 731cm

It's snowing again today, thank goodness, although not a lot has fallen.

The plows actually woke me up around 3:30 am (it's the sound that tells me that action may shortly be required), but they were just cleaning up the washboard that was our road yesterday.

It's coming down pretty nicely at the moment, so let's hope there's more on the way. Look at some of the snow depth figures!

Got an interesting message yesterday (via the site contact form):

Attention: Myoko snow reporter

I have been part of a group of Australian skiers visiting Myoko since 2015 (except corona).

We love your mountain but are concerned about the changes which we observe. Major development plans for the mountain, new international style hotels.

Too many visitors will turn your wonderful mountain into just another ski resort.

Long live Sugi!

And it was signed (in katakana) Robert. Thanks so much for that; yes, we share the concern. I'm lucky enough to be on some advisory groups for the prefecture, and my main message is, if we lose our "Myoko-ness," we'll lose the reason our best guests want to come here. And (unlike some of the newer people here), I like living in Japan; I understand that there are good reasons why locals do what the locals do. And I think Robert feels it too. Change will happen, but I hope we can build better, not just bigger. And, this is a skier's mountain, really, with a lot of really pristine nature just behind us. Is that the place for a shopping center and world cuisine?

Your thoughts always welcome.
