Independent snow and weather reporting from the Myoko region of Niigata

New snowfall at base 6cm
Snowfall at base this season 398cm

Posted on Sunday 22nd January 2023 This is an archived report. The latest Myoko Now report can be found here.

Cold and pretty clear today in Myoko, with thin, high clouds over most of the sky.

Really beautiful morning, though, with sparkly facets on the surface of the snow, snow-frosted trees and those beautiful (and increasingly white) mountains out there. Got down to about -10°C last night (the cause of those sparkles on the snow surface), which should make for some good skiing.

The extended forecast has really cold weather around the 25th, with warnings about pipes freezing and breaking in Tokyo, snow all over the country - and hopefully lots for us here, too!
