Independent snow and weather reporting from the Myoko region of Niigata

New snowfall at base 65cm
Snowfall at base this season 261cm

Posted on Sunday 17th December 2017 This is an archived report. The latest Myoko Now report can be found here.

We’re getting real snow! After railing at the ski resorts for not getting reports out early enough, here I am coming to you late on the second day of an expanded available resort menu.

Well, there was snow to plow; there was a new snow plot to fire up for the first time (you’re going to get scientific snow depths!). 65cm so far, people! And I did ski yesterday and it was great; can only be greater today.

It really is January-style snow, coming down at about 3 centimeters an hour. Heavy winds overnight. Crazy for this time of year. We’ve basically doubled the base overnight.

One surprise: Suginohara had listed the 23rd for its opening date, but it’s open now!
