Independent snow and weather reporting from the Myoko region of Niigata

New snowfall at base 11cm
Snowfall at base this season 678cm

Posted on Tuesday 14th January 2025 This is an archived report. The latest Myoko Now report can be found here.

Nice and cold overnight, so the snow is covered with sparkly facets this morning. It got unexpectedly snowy yesterday morning, with a pretty heavy snowfall that ended mid-day, with a sunny afternoon for the dondon-yaki festival in Shin-Akakura (the very neighborhood event in which we burn items such as the fixings from Shinto shrines, amulets, etc., on big pillars of straw set up in fall).

The No. 1 Yodel lift, a main first lift on Akakura Onsen, was not running yesterday. Hope they can get that going more consistently!
