Independent snow and weather reporting from the Myoko region of Niigata

New snowfall at base 23cm
Snowfall at base this season 99cm

Posted on Thursday 12th December 2024 This is an archived report. The latest Myoko Now report can be found here.

Snow and wind overnight, but not as much as it looked like at bedtime or so. The snow tapered off early this morning, but it’s falling again now.

The good thing is that this nice gentle build-up means that, at least at Akakura Onsen two of the lifts (once again, at least) will be running Saturday. Got this from a knowledgeable member of the ski industry here, so you can take that straight to the ticket office.

It’s actually very pretty snow; after two hours of snow clearing and sitting down to that morning coffee (and nothing tastes as good on a snowy, snow-throwing morning), it’s very Christmas-y out there. Gentle flakes and no wind.

Winter is nice....
