Independent snow and weather reporting from the Myoko region of Niigata
New snowfall at base 2cm
Snowfall at base this season 1014cm
Posted on Wednesday 11th February 2026 This is an archived report. The latest Myoko Now report can be found here.
I could hear the rain during the night (a sound that seems to wake me up....drip, drip, drip off the eaves). By early morning, though, that had turned to snow, which is now falling nicely (a little wet and cohesive but it’s solid water, not rain!).
Happy National Foundation Day, by the way, the date when the first emperor, Jimmu, ascended to the throne in 660BC, and the date of the establishment of the Meiji Constitution, when the emperor rose in power and Japan started its true modernization.
In today’s terms, hopefully that means more Japanese out on the slopes today!
One of the ski school heads here told me that they are way down on lessons for Japanese guests; come on locals! Nice to have a mix of folks out on the hill (and, hey, this is Japan; we want to hear more Japanese!).
