New snowfall at base 0cm
Snowfall at base this season 421cm

It's one of those “quiet before the storm” days in Myoko.
It’s sunny with just a few patches of cloud, the views are great but that wind from the southwest is just a little too steady. The national news has already begun warning about the possibility of very heavy snow tomorrow for Niigata, Nagano and other prefectures (I think we can stick with those two, since Myoko is kind of stuck into Nagano on three sides). My favorite weather site on the web, though, shows some genuinely crazy winds tomorrow, with that northwest wind from Vladivostok coming straight here (an excellent sign of heavy snowfall) being interrupted by major winds screaming in down from the east Korean coast, then sweeping to the east and along the coast.
I am really interested to see what that will bring. A few years ago there was a similar warning for our area, but the winds came along the coast rather than hitting the frontline mountains (like Mt. Myoko), burying Joetsu City in a record snowfall that paralyzed the city for days, while we had some sun and gently falling flakes here in the mountains. The seasoned weather watcher’s opinion? Get ready for any possibility! We might be up to our waists in the resort, lifts might close—or we might not see that much.
Looking forward to catching up with you tomorrow!
