Independent snow and weather reporting from the Myoko region of Niigata

New snowfall at base 21cm
Snowfall at base this season 655cm

Posted on Friday 10th January 2025 This is an archived report. The latest Myoko Now report can be found here.

The weather is weird right now; the national news is all about the massive snows all, over the place; meanwhile, we haven’t seen a huge fall, but lots of on and off snowing, a touch of wind, the sun is peeking out right now....

In fact, I was woken up at 5:30 by the city’s big rotary snowthrower; went to take a look and there was very little new snow. They never plowed yesterday, so I guess they were catching up (we suspect they don’t go until there’s 30cm or so on the ground, so maybe they were looking at the total?). Looked outside, and there wasn’t really enough to justify popping up and getting to work (back to bed!). Then it was coming down hard at 7, slowed down again, the wind shifted from east to now....west? north?

No predictions on how much will fall by tomorrow. But it is colder, the snow is pretty nice and light and it's not crazy deep, at least at base level. There could be a lot more (and more wind) higher up.
