Independent snow and weather reporting from the Hakuba region of Nagano

New snowfall at base 0cm
Snowfall at base this season 40cm

Posted on Friday 8th December 2023 This is an archived report. The latest Hakuba Now report can be found here.

Good morning from Hakuba.

Yesterday we got some windy conditions on the mountain and a bit of snow too. Hakuba 47 was reporting 5cm yesterday afternoon and Tsugaike Kogen is reporting up to 10cm of fresh snow on upper areas this morning. No numbers to report from Happo-one.

I had to do a bit of walking around the village yesterday afternoon and got rained on.

This morning clouds have cleared again and it's a blue sky start. Today and tomorrow should be fine, though warmer than we would like - particularly tomorrow. The next snowfall looks due around the middle of the coming week.

Good news from Hakuba Happo-one this morning - it's Alpen quad lift and Kurobishi Number 2 quad lift are scheduled to be moving, with the Usagidaira and Kurobishi runs due to be available.

Jigatake ski area, one of the 'Hakuba Valley' ski areas just to the south of Hakuba, is also going for a 'pre-open' today. That is earlier than their original planned opening date, which is always nice to see. A lift ticket today is just 500 yen (2,000 yen from tomorrow). There's machine-produced snow is involved.
