Independent snow and weather reporting from the Hakuba region of Nagano

New snowfall at base 0cm
Snowfall at base this season 782cm

Posted on Tuesday 6th May 2025 This is an archived report. The latest Hakuba Now report can be found here.

Good morning from Hakuba on this last day of the 2024-2025 season.

Happo-one, Goryu, 47 and Tsugaike will be finishing up for the season at the end of today. They could all probably remain open beyond today in terms of remaining snow.

I was going to write a ton of words about this past season. To prepare for that, since last week I have been reading through all of the daily reports I have posted since November 2024. It was actually a lot of fun looking back and I recommend the same to you. There's nothing like the feelings at the time as it was all happening. So I decided not to write a bit long essay.

But what a season it has been here in Hakuba!

If you look at the snowfall statistics over the years (here), I observed more snowfall (* at base *) this last season than any other season since the data started to be collected over 12 years ago.

December 2024 in particular brought us some fantastic snowfall and it really set the tone for the season as a whole. Thankfully, the snow didn't dry up as we got into 2025.

Good times.

We can only hope that 2025-2026 is as good.

Anyway, like I said, I recommend looking back over the reports and also checking out the archive data in this section.

Thank you for reading. I hope you enjoyed following the reports.

I did my best trying to find good up-to-date information every morning (not always successfully). Hopefully my occasional frustrations were bearable!

See you in November 2025 as we once again look forward to fresh snow.

PS!

Just for fun, here is the final 'total snowfall' totals for the season, as published on the Hakuba Valley official website:

Hakuba Happo-one: 1248cm

Hakuba Cortina: 1159cm

ABLE Hakuba Goryu: 1130cm

Hakuba Norikura: 1105cm

Hakuba 47: 1061cm

Sanosaka: 880cm

Hakuba Iwatake: 558cm

Jigatake: 553cm

Kashimayari: 429cm

Tsugaike: 415cm

Poor old Tsugaike with only 415cm!

Obviously, that Tsugaike data is almost comically incorrect - it's hard to believe just how wrong it is - but it also makes me question the reliability of the others.

If I had one wish for next season - other than massive amounts of snow - it would be that ski areas and official sources realise the importance of providing good and clear information for their visitors early each morning.

Bye for now.
