Independent snow and weather reporting from the Hakuba region of Nagano

New snowfall at base 32cm
Snowfall at base this season 217cm

Posted on Tuesday 4th January 2022 This is an archived report. The latest Hakuba Now report can be found here.

Excellent morning to you from Hakuba.

So, there's two types of morning that I really love. There's those with the deep blue sky and stunning mountains (preferably following overnight snow). But even better than those are the mornings with a lot of fresh snowfall. And today is one of those.

We did get some blue sky and sun at times yesterday afternoon. It was snowing by the evening and this morning we have some big numbers to report. For once Cortina does not 'win', reporting just 20cm. In contrast Happo-one is reporting up to 37cm and Hakuba 47 are boasting of 'over 50cm' on their upper areas. Hakuba Goryu, next door, are reporting 40cm. And I can post 32cm for my base snowfall report.

Excellent. It is always exciting to be able to report good numbers. It's even more exciting to get out there and play in it. :)

(And of course I totally don't say that to tease those of you who are sadly not able to be here right now. Hopefully you guys will just be happy for Hakuba and just be even more looking forward to getting here --- hopefully later this year! Fingers crossed.)

OK back to the weather. Visibility is limited. Doesn't feel that cold. Time to go....
