Independent snow and weather reporting from the Hakuba region of Nagano
New snowfall at base 2cm
Snowfall at base this season 69cm
Posted on Tuesday 3rd January 2017 This is an archived report. The latest Hakuba Now report can be found here.
It was a mild yesterday and we had periods of mostly blue sky and then times when there was more cloud around, particularly around mid afternoon. Things generally cleared up once again for a beautiful dusk before it went dark.
This morning I am happy to be able to report snow falling. There's 2cm on the ground so far and hopefully more to come though it isn't expected to last much beyond lunch time. It is colder though and tomorrow snow clouds should be around as well, hopefully making their deposits.
The webcams from around the resorts don't show much at the moment with poor visibility out there. Extra care needed.
Oh yes, resorts are reporting varying amounts of snowfall this morning. 47 say there's up to 20cm of snow on their upper areas; to the north at Cortina they are reporting up to 5cm. On that information, I think I might have decided where I am heading this morning!
See you tomorrow with - fingers crossed - more snow news.
