Independent snow and weather reporting from the Hakuba region of Nagano

New snowfall at base 3cm
Snowfall at base this season 503cm

Posted on Sunday 26th January 2025 This is an archived report. The latest Hakuba Now report can be found here.

Well, I suppose the headline this morning has to be the 30cm of fresh snowfall that Hakuba Cortina is reporting this morning. That number stands out with other ski areas to the south, which are reporting much less. Weather maps do indeed seem to indicate that the northern regions of Otari got considerably more than Hakuba Village overnight, and even less to the south in Omachi. Not a totally uncommon pattern. Omoshiroi ne.

Still, great to see '30cm' appear again. I was getting used to it!

I'm a bit surprised at the low or non existent numbers from some ski areas, see list below.

I have myself measured 3cm since last night.

Right now it is quite sunny around base; less so higher up on the mountains. But variable, depending on where you find yourself.

Mid-week is still looking good for lots of snow, starting Tuesday.
